Seeley Suzuki Mk2 500cc 1971 # 1 bike

The History

Former sidecar Grand Prix racer Colin Seeley famed for producing the Matchless G50 and AJS 7R singles in the late 1960s, went on in the 70s to produce Yamaha and Suzuki framed bikes. The Suzuki 500 was campaigned by Barry Sheene with great success.  The frame is almost entirely made from 17 gauge Reynolds 531 tubing with the exception of the head stock and the swinging arm pivot mounting tube which are both CFS3 BK, the end result is a very light weight frame, which handles superbly.   

 

This Bike

The Suzuki T500 engine was found in the UK for this project, the engine has been totally rebuilt to original standards, the original Mikuni carburetors have replaced with larger racing version. Nova 6 speed gear box and straight cut primary gears fitted along with Nova clutch the clutc has been modified to operate by Brembo hydraulic master cylinder, the ignition is self generating  with twin coil.

The 496cc engine porting is Exhaust opens 80deg atdc (200deg duration) Transfer opens 115deg atdc (130 deg duration)
Inlet opens 85deg atdc (190 deg duration. The exhaust system is made to the works specification by Dave Swarbrick and the Ignition is fully self-generating. 

 

The petrol tank was custom made, as was all the footrest brackets and foot levers etc and the 2-stroke oil tank.

The front forks are Marzocchi  35mm fitted with Suzuki  twin 280 mm disc using twin port Brembo cylinders and Brembo master cylinder, the rear brake uses a standard Suzuki hub.

 

The Seeley Suzuki frame is new in 2020 built by Roger Tichmarsh who is licenced by Colin Seeley to produce the frames today using the original jigs, seat and faring and petrol Tank are all taken from the original templates.       

The Bike will be used at the CRMC and other classic events in the UK and at the Belgium classic GP at Spa
