Ducati Saxon 350

The History

Saxon frames were commissioned by the noted Ducati specialist Tony Brancato of Brancato Engineering and built for Tony by Saxon Engineering at Leatherhead Surrey, (interestingly BRT also has a 1000 Laverda in Saxon built frame). All the turned and milled parts of the chassis, fuel tank, breather /rear mudguard, front mudguard, seat, fairing, paddock stand, handlebars and foot controls and exhaust were all hand made by Tony Brancato. Only 40 Saxon Ducati frames were made; the first batch being completed in 1972.

The Saxon frame is a very high-quality frame using the very light but strong Reynolds T45 tubing.

The Saxon frame has a slightly longer wheel base that a standard Ducati frame and improves the already good and rock fast handling.

This Bike

This bike was original built as part of the first batch in 1972 and is number BE005, as a 250cc wide case race bike, in 2020 in BRT converted from a 250cc engine to a 350cc race tuned engine, with twin plug head, 173A Joy race cam, Omega high comp piston, Arrow con rod, high output oil pump, coil valve spring conversion. The head is fully ported and gas flowed and uses am Amal 32mm Concentric carburettor.

The front forks are 34mm Marzocchi and fitted with Brembo single 260mm front disc with Brembo Master and Wheel cylinders, the rear brake is Ducati standard drum. The high-level exhaust fitted to meet modern noise regulations. Rear suspension units are Hagon Classic with 5 pre-set load positions.

The bike as a 250 was previously owned by Terry Halliday, Paul Miles, Barry Wright and eventually Jerry Fiford (ex Bemsee Champion) and now as a 350cc by BRT Racing and will be used at CRMC and other classic events in England and Europe.
