Rob North Triumph F750

The History

In 1970 the Triumph factory commissioned Rob North a midlands frame specialist to build just 9 of these F750 race bikes, later it is believed a further 4 were built, using the Triumph Trident 750 cc engine.

Dick Mann's won the Daytona 200in 1971 and John Cooper, BSA-mounted, at Mallory Park's 'Race of the Year', vanquishing the hitherto unbeatable combination of Giacomo Agostini and MV Agusta. Works Triumph riders Percy Tait and Ray Pickrell won the 24-hour Bol d'Or endurance race using Rob North Triples, and Cooper wrapped up a memorable international season for BSA-Triumph with victory in the 250-mile race at Ontario in October.

This Bike

The engine is original 1972 T150T with 4 speed gearbox, when it came into my possession it was in a very poor condition with cracked timing cover etc, the engine has been totally rebuilt using new and better parts; billet conrods, Boyer race ignition, Norman Hyde up rated oil pump, racing valve springs etc, all other engine parts have been replaced.

I have replaced the old 4 speed gearbox with a five speed cluster, and it is planned before the 2015 season to replace the original and heavy diaphragm clutch with an air cooled unit.

The paint finish and sponsors decals are all based on the original Paul Smart Bike, Paul from Kent was a very successful racer on the Rob North and campaigned them after Triumph went into financial decline.

The frame was built using the original jigs and even all the welding was done by the original frame builder’s welder, the petrol and oil tank were handmade. The exhaust is identical to the original unit but made in stainless steel, all AP Lockheed brake components are new.  The forks, wheels and yokes are all works items, new wider rims and modern tyres have been fitted. The Bike will be used at the CRMC and other classic events in 2015
